Plastic- Durable, Sustainable or Persistent

Plastic a product of hydrocarbon which is very difficult to degrade overtime. For a product to keep its shape over a longer period of time is considered a good feature. This is why natural leather still in use. Plastics have revolutionized the manufacturing and replaced the metals in lot of places. Every plastic is not bad it is use of plastic which makes it bad. The problem lies with the term DISPOSABLE. It relates to ease, comfort and even precautionary in some cases. In linear systems disposables have three disadvantages one is increasing the entropy, second is need of raw virgin material and third one is that the waste can pose a burden to many generations in future hardly knowing the people creating mess for them. The main hindrance in making plastics a circular business is associated with end user which is in a best position to segregate. It is very hard to deal with unsegregated solid waste. Most of the plastic waste end up in rivers and finally in oceans. Few organizations are working on capturing plastic wastes from water bodies. Recently Shell also has constructed a process plant to create plastics from plastic wastes on a bulk scale.
